Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Survey Crew Chief to join our dynamic Geomatics team in Lloydminster, AB. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for managing and performing field survey work, coordinating with project managers, and providing guidance and training to survey assistants.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and perform field survey work with the support of survey assistants.
  • Liaise with project managers to coordinate field survey work, review and manage project budgets, schedules, priorities, and survey methodology.
  • Liaise with client field representatives and landowners and be a brand ambassador for GeoVerra.
  • Prepare field notes, sketches, checklists, and digital data in required formats for different audiences.
  • Provide guidance, training, and mentorship to survey assistants.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of industry best practices, efficient field processes and procedures, and the innovative use of new technology.
  • Proactively participate in and support the GeoVerra safety program.
  • Complete office technical survey tasks as required and other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Diploma/degree in a post-secondary program related to surveying and geomatics or an equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years' experience in a survey crew chief role.
  • Strong working knowledge of survey equipment and software such as GPS and total stations (including robotic).
  • Proficiency with digital leveling, municipal construction, and legal survey experience is required.
  • Experience with Trimble equipment and software, laser scanning, and line locating is considered an asset.
  • Strong problem-solving skills in a field environment.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with the capacity to produce accurate and legible field notes.
  • The ability to develop and motivate survey staff and work well in a team environment.
  • An aptitude for delivering projects on time and budget.
  • A valid driver's license and the ability to provide a clean driver's abstract.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment drug and alcohol screening as per the limits provided in the Canadian Model for Providing a Safe Workplace.

Working Conditions

  • Primarily local work with occasional work away from home.
  • Ability to carry, lift, and push up to 50lbs on a regular basis.
  • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions.
