Role Overview
This position is primarily focused on executing repairs and upkeep of the building and surrounding property, along with maintaining mechanical systems with minimal oversight.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct routine maintenance, repairs, and diagnostics on facility and laboratory equipment, including HVAC systems, motors, pumps, and filters.
- Support the Facilities Manager with necessary repair and maintenance tasks.
- Collaborate with tradespeople and contractors as needed.
- Oversee property maintenance, including waste management and upkeep of both indoor and outdoor spaces.
- Procure and transport building materials and maintenance supplies.
- Execute minor building repairs independently, such as painting, carpentry, and basic plumbing.
- Evaluate project needs and coordinate with trades or contractors when necessary.
- Monitor and maintain on-site waste treatment systems.
- Supervise maintenance projects and facility operations.
- Identify required supplies and manage ordering processes.
- Operate a forklift for waste removal and pallet movement.
- Maintain comprehensive logs and records of maintenance activities.
- Adhere to established procedures and quality standards while ensuring safety compliance.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Candidate Profile:
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Fundamental knowledge of HVAC systems.
- Basic plumbing skills.
- Strong aptitude for mechanical and electrical systems.
- Capability to interpret technical manuals and follow detailed instructions.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively under pressure.
- Strong organizational skills and time management capabilities.
- Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrates integrity, sound judgment, and problem-solving skills.
- Safety-conscious and proactive.
- Proficient in using computers for clerical tasks.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum Building Operator Certificate, SMT or SMA designation, or equivalent formal training from a technical institution, or relevant experience.
- 2-3 years of experience in general building maintenance and operations.
- Experience in carpentry, plumbing, and/or HVAC is advantageous.
- Valid Provincial Class 5 driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Forklift certification or experience is a plus (training will be provided).
- Proficient in performing minor repairs and general maintenance tasks.
