Job Title: Student Services Counsellor

Aitchison College of Technology & Health Sciences Inc. is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Student Services Counsellor to join our team. As a key member of our student support services, you will play a vital role in providing guidance and support to students, helping them navigate academic and personal challenges.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervise teaching assistants and provide guidance on their roles and responsibilities.
  • Counsel students on educational, career, and vocational issues, as well as personal and social concerns.
  • Consult with teachers, parents, administrators, and community agencies to ensure comprehensive support for students.
  • Coordinate the provision of counselling and information services to students, parents, and teachers.
  • Administer and interpret standardized intelligence, aptitude, and interest tests.
  • Refer students to specialized services when required and participate in staff meetings, educational conferences, and workshops.
  • Develop guidance and counselling programs that meet the needs of our diverse student population.
  • Arrange for recruitment of graduating students by employers and supervise peer counselling programs.
  • Supervise field experience for graduate students in clinical and counselling areas and visit colleges and secondary schools to provide academic information to prospective students.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations at conferences, workshops, and symposia.
Requirements:
  • 1-2 years of experience in a related field.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and maintain attention to detail.
  • Combination of sitting, standing, and walking.
  • Client-focused and organized with excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Initiative and judgement with a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working with diverse student populations, including newcomers and refugees.
  • Knowledge of government and community programs that support youth employment, veterans, and Indigenous people.
  • Ability to provide cultural competency training and awareness training to create a welcoming work environment.
