Job Summary

Scotiabank is seeking a highly experienced Senior Legal Counsel to join its Global Asset Management team. The successful candidate will provide expert legal advice and support to the business, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and mitigating risk.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide legal advice and analysis to support business decisions, including identifying and assessing legal risks and developing strategies to mitigate risk.
  • Advise on the development, structuring, and offering of investment funds, including drafting documentation and interpreting relevant legislation.
  • Research and inform the business on legal trends and their impact on operations, identifying and resolving legal and regulatory issues, risks, and concerns.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate legal agreements, and advise on securities regulatory developments and implications.
  • Provide legal research, analysis, and advice on business activities, and instruct and direct the activity of external counsel.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with internal business units and partners.
Requirements
  • Graduated from a nationally recognized law school.
  • Membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
  • A minimum of 8+ years of corporate/securities law experience, with an emphasis on asset management and investment fund products.
  • Knowledge of and previous experience relating to securities registrant regulation, financial services, the investment fund industry, derivatives transactions, private placements, and/or the Canadian regulatory environment.
