Lead Bridge Engineering Specialist

Uniting Holding is seeking to hire a Lead Bridge Engineering Specialist with a minimum of 10-15 years of experience for a permanent role within our expanding bridge engineering teams.

Job Type: Permanent, with options for full-time, part-time, or flexible working arrangements.

Role Responsibilities
  • Engage with both existing and new bridge structures across various materials and configurations, including superstructure, substructure, and articulation components.
  • Participate in early project phases: scoping, specifying, and interpreting surveys, inspections, and investigative work, as well as scheme design.
  • Conduct detailed design work: modeling, calculations, and overseeing the production of drawings.
  • Prepare documentation, including authoring technical reports, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Review the work of colleagues: category 3 checking, acting as a client representative and designer's site representative.
  • Interface with clients from local and national authorities, consultants, and design-and-build contractors.
  • Support the development of junior staff towards achieving professional qualifications.
Essential Qualifications
  • A degree in civil or structural engineering at the master's level or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 10-15 years of professional experience.
  • Chartered Engineer status with a recognized engineering institution.
  • Ability to thrive within a dynamic, multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Strong technical knowledge and engineering skills, particularly in bridge engineering software.
  • Flexible, motivated, and focused with excellent attention to detail.
  • Proficient in producing high-quality design outputs.
  • Strong organizational skills and a robust work ethic.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Fluent in spoken and written English.
Desirable Attributes
  • In-depth knowledge and experience with the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) and relevant standards and legislation, including Eurocodes.
  • Experience in multidisciplinary consultancy or contracting in related civil engineering fields such as highways, structural, geotechnics, rail, or water.
  • A willingness to understand and contribute to colleagues' work in areas beyond transportation infrastructure projects.
  • An interest in business development, client engagement, and participation in bids and tenders.
