Job Title: Sr Mechanical Designer

Job Summary

The Sr Mechanical Designer will be responsible for leading the mechanical design of projects from start to finish, utilizing technical expertise and consulting skills to deliver high-quality results.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to assigned mechanical design team members.
  • Assess customer specifications and develop comprehensive conceptual designs for proposed systems.
  • Foster creativity and resourcefulness in interactions with external and internal customers to address issues and concerns.
  • Assist in developing project plans, budgets, and resource requirements, and coordinate design team efforts.
  • Work closely with Project Management to provide support, status reports, and ensure seamless transitions during assembly build and integration phases.
  • Proactively address quote deficiencies and scope creep through accepted channels.
  • Liaise with Project Management to ensure timely updates to the Schedule.
  • Collaborate with internal and external customers, including Sales, Applications, Project Management, Shop Floor Assembly, Purchasing, and 3rd party vendors.
  • Promote a collaborative and inclusive work style with the project team.
  • Evaluate mechanical products for purchase to determine efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
  • Produce accurate CAD layouts, manufacturing drawings, and bills of material.
  • Review and improve upon engineering designs prepared by the design team.
  • Ensure designs are safe, efficient, effective, and manufacturable prior to manufacturing release.
  • Review team drawings for accuracy, material selection, and proper machining techniques.
  • Approve release for manufacturing and review assembly bills of material prepared by the design team.
  • Assist shop floor assembly team during integration phase to resolve issues and complete the system.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation.
  • Develop strong customer relationships to source additional work and seek new opportunities.
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with local, national, and international standards and legislation.
Requirements
  • Post-Secondary education in mechanical engineering or related discipline.
  • A minimum of 8 years of engineering experience in industrial automation.
  • Proficiency in Solidworks and AutoCAD.
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Strong written and verbal skills in English.
