About the Role

The Chief Executive Officer will provide strategic leadership to the Wilder Institute and the Calgary Zoo, driving conservation and sustainability initiatives. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of building and sustaining innovative partnerships, working with diverse stakeholders, and leading a complex organizational structure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the transformation of the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo into a preeminent national and international conservation organization
  • Develop and implement strategic plans to continue evolving the delicate balance between conservation ambition and operating a world-class zoo
  • Champion the work and mission of the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo externally, on local, national, and global stages
  • Work with the talented team at the Zoo to nurture a world-class guest experience and maintain exceptional animal welfare
  • Ensure the organization maintains its record as a world-class facility with efficient and effective infrastructure, staff, exhibits, programs, and services
Requirements
  • Experience in a renowned, accredited zoo or aquarium, or a similar conservation organization
  • Proven leadership and management experience, with a track record of building and sustaining innovative partnerships
  • Strong team-building skills, with the ability to mentor and motivate staff
  • Passion for conservation and the leadership role of zoos worldwide in its pursuit
  • Strong emotional intelligence and communication skills to work effectively with diverse stakeholders
