Job Overview

AECOM is seeking a dedicated River Systems Specialist for opportunities in Canada, possessing expertise in applied river geomorphology.

AECOM is expanding its proficiency in river geomorphology for both environmental and engineering initiatives. The ideal candidate for the River Systems Specialist role will be an enthusiastic professional, eager to contribute to the advancement of the river geomorphology sector within AECOM across Canada. This specialist will collaborate with AECOM's team of river geomorphologists, hydraulic engineers, and ecologists to execute various stream restoration initiatives, which include restoring natural processes and habitat conditions, implementing erosion control measures, and enhancing fish passage. Additionally, the role involves identifying hazards and facilitating infrastructure improvements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Apply scientific principles, theories, practices, and current technologies to devise solutions for technical challenges with limited scope.
  • Gather and input data while utilizing technical principles and theories.
  • Analyze and document data, conducting assessments, and comparing results to relevant studies and regulations to ensure compliance.
  • Support or lead 'Natural Channel Design' and stream restoration projects, conducting evaluations on existing and proposed conditions to provide enhancement recommendations and design input.
  • Conduct comprehensive field investigations and assessments, including sediment transport and scour analysis.
  • Analyze and interpret geomorphic and hydraulic data.
  • Prepare technical reports.
  • Collaborate across offices and disciplines in Canada, participating in meetings with clients and stakeholders.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific or engineering field (e.g., geomorphology, river engineering, earth science).
  • 4+ years of professional experience.
  • Proficiency in GIS and CAD software.
  • Understanding of river forms, processes, and functions, including their dependence on local physiography and their impact on ecological habitats.
  • Experience with river and stream channel hydraulics and channel stability assessments.
  • Experience in environmental data collection, identification, investigation, data entry, and assessments.
  • Development of stream restoration and enhancement strategies.
  • Willingness to travel (including to remote areas) and effectively conduct fieldwork.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Master's degree specializing in river geomorphology is advantageous.
  • 6 years of relevant experience.
  • Familiarity with Natural Channel Design methodologies, from concept development to detailed design, construction implementation, and monitoring.
  • Experience in GIS and hydraulic modeling applications for study design and data analysis.
  • Geohazard mapping and slope stability assessments.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in proposal writing and/or project management.
  • Detail-oriented work approach.
  • Ability to manage personal project workload and adhere to deadlines.
  • Eligibility for professional membership (P.Geo. and/or P.Eng.).
