About the Role

The Métis Nation of Ontario is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief of Staff to support the Provincial Secretaries office. As a key member of the senior leadership team, the Chief of Staff will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the office, coordinating with MNO administration and senior leadership, and navigating complex issues to achieve results for MNO citizens.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the activities and manage the day-to-day needs of the Provincial Secretaries to build an effective and accountable team.
  • Ensure the Provincial Secretaries office operates efficiently and effectively, producing desired results based on advancing MNO's overall strategy, objectives, and goals.
  • Work closely with the President, Provincial Secretaries, and PCMNO to serve as a liaison between the Provincial Secretaries and staff.
  • Collaborate with the Provincial Secretaries and the President to build relationships with other governments and stakeholders.
  • Attend meetings with MNO Provincial Secretaries, Directors, MNO staff, and external stakeholders on topics related to MNO's strategic goals.
  • Provide visionary leadership to drive collaboration and support the achievement of MNO's objectives.
  • Lead the development and implementation of strategic plans in collaboration with the President and Provincial Secretaries.
  • Build trust and good relations with key partners and stakeholders.
Requirements
  • 3+ years of Chief of Staff or Leadership experience in an Indigenous or non-Indigenous government setting.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher certification in Public Service/Government Operations/Political Science.
  • Recent experience interacting with boards or councils at a senior leadership level.
  • Advanced communications skills, both written and verbal.
  • High degree of detail-orientation.
  • Exceptional project coordination, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a high degree of self-awareness.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve conflicts and manage challenging situations.
  • Outstanding leadership skills with a focus on relationship-building.
  • Excellent communication and public speaking skills.
  • A strong understanding of Métis governance structures and decision-making processes.
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
  • Willing and able to travel with overnight stays in other provinces.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of Métis-specific and broader Indigenous key challenges.
  • Preference will be given to Métis applicants.
  • Bilingualism (considered an asset).
