Position Overview:
The Food Safety and Quality Assurance (FSQA) Manager is primarily responsible for safeguarding the quality of food produced at the bakery by formulating and executing food safety and quality strategies while complying with all regulatory, customer, and company standards.

Key Responsibilities:
The FSQA Manager serves as a pivotal leader within the bakery, working alongside the Bakery Director to create, implement, and oversee food safety and quality assurance programs. This role ensures that the production team adheres to food safety and quality standards. The FSQA Manager reports directly to the FSQA Central Services Director and provides leadership to their team while collaborating with other bakery department managers.

  • Lead the Food Safety Plan team to assess and implement controls on various hazards, including biological, chemical, and physical risks.
  • Identify potential food safety hazards in products and processes, establish controls, and design corrective actions for any deviations.
  • Act as the Preventive Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI), overseeing the food safety plan and validating preventive controls.
  • Update and reevaluate existing food safety plans to align with current regulations and standards.
  • Ensure compliance with Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) standards and assist in leading program reviews.
  • Investigate product failures, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions to minimize production downtime.
  • Enhance technology and innovation to improve departmental effectiveness.
  • Lead investigations of customer complaints, utilizing root cause analysis to determine corrective actions.
  • Promote a culture of food safety through effective communication and training programs.
  • Manage the FSQA team, set objectives, and communicate training needs.
  • Monitor adherence to the Food Safety and Quality Assurance budget.
  • Conduct daily sensory evaluations to identify product defects.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Microbiology, Chemistry, Food Technology, or a related field.
  • 5-7 years of leadership experience in food safety and quality assurance, preferably in food manufacturing.
  • Extensive background in food processing, HACCP, USDA, or FDA regulations.
  • Proven experience in managing FSQA teams.
  • Certifications in HACCP, PCQI, SQF Practitioner, or other relevant standards.
  • Knowledge of food hygiene, cGMPs, and environmental monitoring.
  • Proficient in computer applications related to quality management.
  • Able to work in food production environments with varying conditions.
