Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada De Beers Group Full time

Job Overview:
As a key member of the De Beers Group, the Reliability Engineer will report directly to the Reliability Engineering Superintendent. The primary objective of this role is to enhance the dependability of mobile machinery and pinpoint potential risks that could negatively impact operational efficiency. This is accomplished through the application of reliability engineering principles within the Asset Management (AM) framework, alongside a thorough and methodical examination of physical failures, asset conditions, and component reliability metrics.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Asset Management: Formulate and execute strategies aimed at optimizing the reliability of mining equipment and assets, including hydraulic shovels, haul trucks, dozers, graders, and rock drills.
  • Reliability Analysis: Assess asset criticality and conduct reliability evaluations on essential equipment to uncover failure modes, root causes, and areas for enhancement. Employ methodologies such as FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) and RCM (Reliability-Centered Maintenance) to boost asset performance.
  • Condition Monitoring: Initiate and manage condition monitoring initiatives to evaluate the health and performance of machinery, utilizing techniques like vibration analysis, oil analysis, thermography, and ultrasonic testing.
  • Data Analysis: Examine data from equipment monitoring systems and historical maintenance records to identify trends and opportunities for optimization, using data-driven insights to inform maintenance strategies and equipment upgrades.
  • Maintenance Strategy Development: Create and refine preventive maintenance (PM), predictive maintenance (PdM), and condition-based maintenance (CBM) strategies to enhance equipment uptime and reduce unplanned outages.
  • Defect Elimination and Root Cause Analysis: Coordinate defect elimination activities on-site to develop engineering solutions for recurring failures that hinder operations. This includes defining triggers, leading complex projects, conducting RCA investigations, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to implement sustainable solutions.
  • Reliability Improvement Projects: Lead or engage in projects focused on enhancing equipment reliability, availability, and performance, working closely with maintenance, operations, and engineering teams to adopt best practices.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Ensure accurate documentation of reliability-related tasks, including maintenance procedures and reliability metrics, and prepare reports to communicate key performance indicators to stakeholders.
  • RAM Analysis: Assist in the procurement of new equipment from an operational readiness and technical standpoint, performing Reliability, Availability, and Maintainability (RAM) analyses.
  • Risk and Bottleneck Mitigation: Collaborate with peers and stakeholders to identify and address overarching risks and bottlenecks.

Qualifications:
To be considered for this role, candidates must possess a post-secondary degree in Mechanical Engineering and have a minimum of eight years of relevant experience in mining or heavy industrial environments, with at least four years focused on maintenance or reliability engineering related to mining equipment. Proficiency in reliability analysis techniques, experience with condition monitoring technologies, and familiarity with maintenance management systems are essential. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills are also required, along with a commitment to safety regulations and best practices in the mining industry.
