Our extensive range of health services includes specialized surgical programs, encompassing quaternary care in neonatal, cardiac, neuro, transplant, and major orthopedic/spine reconstruction surgeries, along with interventional radiology and cardiology.

BCCH features an anesthesia-led acute pain management service and sedation services tailored for various specialties, including oncology, gastroenterology, burns, and radiotherapy.

As a premier acute care teaching institution, BCCH is committed to advancing healthcare through research initiatives in collaboration with the BC Children's Hospital Research Institute and the University of British Columbia.

BCCH operates under the Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA), which oversees the planning, management, and evaluation of specialized health services throughout the province. The Department of Pediatric Anesthesia at BCCH is in search of a qualified Fellowship-trained pediatric anesthesiologist who will also apply for a concurrent position in Pediatric Complex Pain. The anesthesia role is a full-time equivalent (FTE) position and cannot be pursued independently. Candidates must fulfill all eligibility criteria for both roles.

We seek individuals who are passionate about enhancing the clinical and academic standards of our team. Your responsibilities will encompass all clinical anesthesia duties (excluding cardiac anesthesia) and active involvement in the acute pain service.

Successful candidates are expected to contribute to our academic objectives, including quality improvement, education, research, and faculty development, and to engage actively in our Clinical and Research Fellowship Program.

Applicants must possess a medical degree and be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia. Anesthesia training must be recognized by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons in British Columbia. Additionally, candidates should have completed subspecialty training in pediatric anesthesia and possess several years of experience as a practicing pediatric anesthesiologist. Expertise in tertiary/quaternary pediatric anesthesia is essential.

Ideal candidates will also have one or both of the following qualifications:

  • Formal experience or training in clinical research
  • Formal experience or training in quality improvement

Successful applicants will be recommended for appointment to the Department of Anesthesia, Pharmacology and Therapeutics within the Faculty of Medicine at the University of British Columbia. Academic rank will be determined based on qualifications and prior experience.
