About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Educational Assistant to join our team at the District School Board of Niagara. As a Supply Educational Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with special education needs in a variety of settings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide individualized support to students with special education needs, including personal care, mobility, communication, and life skills.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to establish a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Assist with classroom management and emergency situations, demonstrating poise and quick thinking.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, staff, and other stakeholders, ensuring a positive and respectful atmosphere.
  • Follow established policies and procedures, adhering to confidentiality and discretion.
Requirements
  • Graduate of a College of Applied Arts & Technology in Educational Assistant - Special Needs Support (preferred), Autism Behavioural Sciences, Child and Youth Worker, or equivalent post-secondary training.
  • Previous experience in an Educational Assistant role, demonstrating ability to navigate diverse classroom settings.
  • Access to reliable transportation and willingness to work in multiple DSBN school locations throughout the Niagara region.
  • Ability to stand/walk for extended periods, with capability to move and carry equipment for program activities.
  • Preferred certification in Standard First Aid/CPR and Nonviolent Crisis Intervention or Behavioural Management Systems (BMS).
  • Provision of a satisfactory Police Clearance, including a Vulnerable Sector Police Check from the last 6 months.
