Counsellor for Newcomer Immigrants

COSTI Immigrant Services is seeking a skilled Counsellor to provide settlement support to newcomer immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers. As a Counsellor, you will play a vital role in helping clients navigate the settlement process and achieve their goals.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct intake and assessment of clients' needs, barriers, and assets to develop a personalized settlement plan.
  • Provide case management services, including information, referral, documentation, crisis intervention, and follow-up support.
  • Refer clients to community and social service agencies for additional support.
  • Liaise with government agencies, community groups, and educational institutions to ensure clients receive comprehensive support.
  • Maintain accurate administrative records and prepare reports using COSTI and ICARE databases.
  • Work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to meet clients' needs.
Requirements:
  • Social Service Worker Diploma or equivalent with relevant practicum experience.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in providing settlement counselling.
  • Strong knowledge of settlement issues facing refugees, refugee claimants, and new immigrants.
  • Ability to communicate in Farsi; additional languages considered an asset.
  • Experience with virtual platforms, such as Zoom and Microsoft Teams.
  • Strong customer service skills and ability to liaise with community organizations.
  • Sound knowledge of Internet, Email, and MS Office in a Windows environment.
  • Good written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
