Position Overview

Aecon is engaged in a significant construction project focused on enhancing transportation infrastructure. The role of the Earthworks Superintendent is pivotal in overseeing daily field operations and ensuring the successful execution of project tasks.

Reporting directly to the Construction Manager, the Superintendent will lead and coordinate a team, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and company policies. This position is essential for fostering relationships among various stakeholders, including the workforce, subcontractors, and clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Champion a culture of safety for all personnel, adhering to environmental health and safety protocols.
  • Facilitate safety initiatives, including work plan development and hazard assessments.
  • Conduct safety meetings and inspections to guide team members effectively.
  • Monitor project quality, resource allocation, and productivity levels.
  • Collaborate with Foremen to address productivity challenges and enhance work performance.
  • Ensure adherence to project plans and budgets while achieving production targets.
  • Assist in translating technical drawings and specifications into actionable work plans.
  • Strategically plan and prioritize tasks to optimize crew and equipment utilization.
  • Work alongside the Construction Manager to determine equipment and labor needs.
  • Partner with the project team to achieve daily production goals aligned with forecasts.
  • Develop a cohesive team through training, coaching, and team-building activities.
  • Guarantee that completed work meets established quality standards and that all necessary documentation is submitted.
  • Oversee daily production reporting and quality control inspections.
  • Ensure accurate reporting of any violations or disciplinary actions.
  • Manage health and safety inspections and project-specific documentation.
  • Review and approve daily field logs to ensure compliance with reporting standards.

Required Knowledge and Experience

  • A minimum of 5 years in a supervisory role within the construction sector, particularly in heavy civil infrastructure.
  • Proficient in earthworks, grading, blasting, MSE wall construction, and bridge building.
  • Experience collaborating within large, multidisciplinary teams.
  • Familiarity with Alberta's occupational health and safety regulations.
  • Exceptional multitasking abilities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Valid Driver's License is required.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts as needed.
