Senior Accountant Role

The Senior Accountant will play a crucial role within the Geotech group of companies. This position is accountable for overseeing and participating in the accounting and reporting functions for group entities within the organization. Essential duties for this role encompass financial, management, and tax reporting to bolster the strategic direction and operations of the company, delivering analytics to inform significant business decisions, ensuring adherence to regulatory and tax obligations, and leading/supporting special initiatives. The ideal candidate must be a motivated individual with strong work ethics, exceptional communication skills, and a keen attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Overseeing full cycle accounting (balance sheet and P&L), reporting, and tax compliance across multiple business units.
  • Managing month-end and quarter-end close processes, reconciliations, reporting, and year-end preparation of audit documentation.
  • Providing guidance to ensure compliance with accounting standards and statutory tax filing requirements.
  • Analyzing and ensuring timely and accurate financial information for management review and presentation.
  • Assisting in the formulation of the annual budget, capital expenditure plan, and cash flow forecast.
  • Maintaining the fixed asset sub-ledger and reconciling it with general ledger accounts.
  • Reconciling Bank, Accounts Receivable, and Accounts Payable sub-ledger accounts with general ledger accounts.
  • Recording routine to complex intercompany transactions, including monthly reconciliation of intercompany balances.
  • Processing and analyzing accounts receivable invoices and aging reports.
  • Preparing government reporting and remittances (GST, PST, Receiver General, etc.).
  • Supervising and analyzing bank reconciliations for multiple business units and bank accounts.
  • Managing accounts payable and vendor payment processes.
  • Leading and supporting accounting-related special projects.
  • Performing other responsibilities and duties as required.

Professional Experience / Qualifications

  • Completion of a bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, or a related discipline.
  • Professional accounting designation (CPA) in good standing.
  • A minimum of 3 years of post-designation accounting experience, preferably in the engineering, manufacturing, or construction sectors.
  • Thorough understanding and application of IFRS.
  • Demonstrated experience in:
    • Analyzing and evaluating operating results against budgets and forecasts.
    • Preparing, monitoring, and analyzing financial accounting, managerial reporting, and tax compliance.
    • Providing key decision support to senior management in the preparation of financial, management, and tax reporting.
    • Analyzing complex operations and offering support and recommendations regarding proper accounting and tax treatment.
    • Supervising, managing, and reviewing the work of team members.
    • Leading and documenting the development of new processes, procedures, and analytical reports.

Skills and Knowledge Required

  • Strong proficiency in MS Office, particularly advanced skills in Excel, Power BI, SharePoint, and Teams.
  • Experience with mid to large ERP systems; prior experience with Microsoft Dynamics NAV is an asset.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with a high degree of discretion. Ability to interact effectively with all levels of staff across various functional areas of the company.
  • Ability to work efficiently with a high degree of accuracy and exceptional attention to detail.
  • Capability to work well independently or as part of a team.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize activities effectively.
  • A proactive and problem-solving mindset.

Compensation

$70,000 - $90,000, commensurate with experience.
