Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Capital Management Specialist to join our team at BMO. As a key member of our finance team, you will be responsible for managing and executing the Bank's capital management framework and related strategies, initiatives, and operational programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement capital management strategies to optimize capital resources and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Provide advice to internal and external stakeholders on capital planning, monitoring, and reporting.
  • Monitor the external market to understand best practices and recommend adoption within BMO.
  • Act as a key contact with stakeholders and industry groups regarding capital management reporting, policies, and practices.
  • Foster a culture aligned to BMO's purpose, values, and strategy, and role model BMO values and behaviors in all interactions.
  • Ensure alignment between values and behavior that fosters diversity and inclusion.
  • Regularly connect work to BMO's purpose, set inspirational goals, define clear expected outcomes, and ensure clear accountability for follow-through.

  • Help determine business priorities and best sequence for execution of business/group strategy.
  • Conduct independent analysis and assessment to resolve strategic issues.
  • Lead or participate in change management activities, including readiness assessments, planning, stakeholder management, execution, evaluation, and sustainment of initiatives.
  • Apply specialized knowledge and provide advice on the interpretation of regulatory capital rules.
  • Influence and negotiate to achieve business objectives.
  • Recommend and implement capital management solutions based on analysis of issues and implications for the business.
  • Support the development of Corporate Standards, operating principles, and guidelines to support the Capital Management Framework.
  • Conduct analysis to evaluate capital impacts of bank initiatives, actions, and business transactions.
  • Plan Capital requirements and develop capital targets and capital allocation methodology recommendations.
  • Monitor Capital usage, Capital Supply, and Capital adequacy.
  • Support the execution of the Enterprise capital adequacy assessment in partnership with Risk Management.
  • Monitor competitive and regulatory developments, assess impacts of changes, and advise on implications for the enterprise/business/group.
  • May network with industry contacts, rating agencies, and regulators on capital and funding issues to influence and gather competitive insights and practices.
  • Build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Act as liaison between stakeholders to align agendas and ensure a clear understanding of the business context.
  • Break down strategic problems, analyze data and information, and provide capital management insights and recommendations.
  • Monitor and track capital performance/drivers of capital performance and address any issues.
  • Gather and format data into regular and ad-hoc reports and dashboards.
Requirements
  • Typically between 5-7 years of relevant experience and/or certification in a related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of economic, social, and political forces and marketplace trends.
  • One or more of the following preferred: MBA Finance, CA, CFA, CGA, CMA.
  • Experience in Finance, Capital Markets, or Treasury.
  • Knowledge of financial analysis and financial modeling.
  • In-depth knowledge of regulatory capital management concepts; capital markets business.
  • In-depth understanding of accounting, balance sheet, and risk management concepts and practices.
  • Deep knowledge and technical proficiency gained through extensive education and business experience.
  • Verbal & written communication skills - In-depth.

What We Offer

BMO offers a competitive salary range of $81,000 to $151,200 per year, as well as a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, tuition reimbursement, accident and life insurance, and retirement savings plans.
