Job Summary

The Winnipeg Police Service is seeking a visionary leader to serve as the Chief of Police. As a pivotal executive role, the Chief of Police will be responsible for the overall leadership and management of the WPS, overseeing all operational and administrative functions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership & Strategy: Develop and implement the WPS's strategic plan, aligning with community needs and the Board's direction. Evaluate the success of strategic initiatives and ensure compliance with The Police Services Act.
  • Operational & Financial Management: Lead the WPS's operational, financial, and human resource management. Foster a high-performance culture that emphasizes innovation, inclusivity, and excellence in service delivery.
  • Board Support: Serve as the official link between the Board and WPS employees, advising on policies, strategic priorities, and new initiatives. Provide regular updates on organizational performance, risks, and key issues.
  • Public Relations & Partnerships: Act as the spokesperson for the WPS and foster strong relationships with media, government officials, community partners, and the public. Ensure transparent communication and collaboration to enhance community safety.

  • Information Communications Technology Accountability and Capacity: Provide strategic oversight of ICT to ensure it meets operational needs and supports public safety objectives.
  • Effective Communication: Utilize various communication techniques to foster relationships, resolve conflicts, and promote shared understanding.
  • Organizational and Environmental Awareness: Demonstrate understanding of social, political, and economic contexts affecting policing, and monitor organizational risks and opportunities.
  • Accountability and Trust: Model accountability, promote transparency, and ensure independence of the police service from political influence.
  • Community Safety and Wellbeing: Promote collaboration with community partners to address safety and wellbeing, and recognize the contributions of all organizational roles to community outcomes.
  • Strategic Thinking and Flexibility: Encourage a culture of strategic thinking and learning, promote innovation, and support flexibility in decision-making and problem-solving.
Compensation
  • Annual Salary: $214, to $313,643.880
