Reporting to a Practice Leader in Alberta, the Counsel II is responsible for managing assigned legal matters related to insurance, representing TD Insurance or its policyholders in civil litigation cases involving claims for damages and compensation for personal injury or property damage of varying complexities.

This role follows a hybrid work model.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Formulate and adjust suitable legal strategies for inquiries, investigations, management, and trial of cases.
  2. Engage with TD Insurance analysts and insured clients as necessary.
  3. Conduct essential and relevant questioning, applications, trials, and mediations.
  4. Research applicable laws related to cases or matters.
  5. Draft legal documents, pleadings, applications, and legal factums as needed.
  6. Stay updated with legal developments.
Qualifications:
  1. Completion of law school with an LLB and admission to the bar in Alberta.
  2. 5+ years of experience as a lawyer with expertise in insurance defense litigation or other forms of litigation, including personal injury or general litigation.
  3. Familiarity with legal and court documents and procedures.
  4. Proficient in standard office equipment and word processing.
  5. Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  6. Ability to communicate effectively.
  7. Capable of editing and proofreading legal documents.
  8. Self-motivated individual with the ability to work efficiently under pressure.
  9. Strong interpersonal and client service skills, maintaining a professional and positive demeanor.
  10. Excellent organizational skills, strong work ethic, and ability to manage multiple tasks.
  11. Creative and conceptual problem-solving abilities.
