Job Title: VDC Project Lead

Modern Niagara is seeking a highly skilled VDC Project Lead to join our team in Ottawa, ON. As a VDC Project Lead, you will play a key role in the preparation of construction coordination, interference plans, and other drawings for all new construction and upgrade/rebuild projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop a process to produce a cost-effective optimized coordinated model and distribute it to the entire project team ahead of schedule.
  • Coordinate with Foreman/Superintendents, Project Managers (PMs) and Construction Managers (CMs), General Contractors, Consultants, and Other trades.
  • Ensure designs conform to applicable standards.
  • Produce detailed fabrication drawings for piping and/or sheet metal.
  • Work closely with the foreman and project coordinators and produce coordination drawings and BIM models.
Requirements:
  • Post-Secondary degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Drafting or relevant technical diploma, journeyman status, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of extensive, practical, and successful experience in the mechanical trades and construction industries.
  • Proficient in Navisworks, Revit with Fabrication Parts.
  • Consideration given for: Revit, AutoCAD, CADworks, FABMep, and other BIM/3D systems.
  • Able to prove ability in resolving/managing multidiscipline coordination.
  • Experience in field installation/trade/code adherence will be highly valued.
  • Experience in reading and interpreting construction drawings and documents.
  • Strong computer skills with hands-on working knowledge of MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and digital scheduling software.
  • Knowledge of construction costs/budgets/schedule and construction process.
  • Applies advanced technical experience/knowledge to interpret documentation, specifications, and design drawings.
  • Strong understanding of submittal process, RFI writing, and tactics focused on implementing design changes.
  • Strong written & communication skills.
  • Excellent leadership skills and ability to effectively work with a team.
  • Willingness to commit to continuous learning.
  • Detail oriented and ability to work within tight timelines, and ensure team stays ahead of critical path with excellent time and project management skills.
  • Resourceful, well organized, and energetic with an ability to effectively set and manage competing priorities.
  • Sense of urgency and drive to succeed, must be comfortable working within a deadline-driven, fast-paced environment.
