**VDC Project Lead**

Modern Niagara is seeking a highly skilled VDC Project Lead to join our team in Ottawa, ON. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing a process to produce cost-effective, optimized coordinated models and distributing them to the project team ahead of schedule.

**Key Responsibilities:**

  • Develop and implement a process to produce cost-effective, optimized coordinated models
  • Distribute coordinated models to the project team ahead of schedule
  • Coordinate with Foreman/Superintendents, Project Managers (PMs), Construction Managers (CMs), General Contractors, Consultants, and other trades
  • Ensure designs conform to applicable standards
  • Produce detailed fabrication drawings for piping and/or sheet metal
  • Work closely with the foreman and project coordinators to produce coordination drawings and BIM models
  • Manage the VDC budget and VDC Designers for assigned projects
  • Field questions, perform QA/QC oversight, and report on the success and status of the project
  • Manage, update, and review the status of the project coordination (Navisworks) model on a weekly basis
  • Assist in the implementation and evolution of the VDC department processes
  • Assist in dissolving barriers of VDC adoption in a politically effective manner
  • Ensure projects meet all VDC requirements set by our customers
  • Meet committed delivery dates
  • Ensure that content from all VDC platforms and collaborators are put into the coordination (Navisworks) project file
  • Manage and police the document storage and communications streams
  • Track changes to the design intent and ensure that model updates are performed
  • Keep accurate records of approved shop drawings and model production
  • Graduate placeholder geometry/libraries to approved/accurate geometry
  • Add metadata to model families as per project specifications
  • Ensure dimensional accuracy for site installers' productivity
  • Pursue prefabricated assembly strategies with logistical and constructability considerations

**Requirements:**

  • Post-Secondary degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Drafting, or relevant technical diploma, journeyman status, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum 5 years of extensive, practical, and successful experience in the mechanical trades and construction industries
  • Proficiency in Navisworks, Revit with Fabrication Parts
  • Consideration given for: Revit, AutoCAD, CADworks, FABMep, and other BIM/3D systems
  • Able to prove ability in resolving/managing multidiscipline coordination
  • Experience in field installation/trade/code adherence
  • Experience in reading and interpreting construction drawings and documents
  • Strong computer skills with hands-on working knowledge of MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and digital scheduling software
  • Knowledge of construction costs/budgets/schedule and construction process
  • Applies advanced technical experience/knowledge to interpret documentation, specifications, and design drawings
  • Strong understanding of submittal process, RFI writing, and tactics focused on implementing design changes
  • Strong written & communication skills
  • Excellent leadership skills and ability to effectively work with a team
  • Willingness to commit to continuous learning
  • Detail oriented and ability to work within tight timelines
  • Resourceful, well organized, and energetic with an ability to effectively set and manage competing priorities
  • Sense of urgency and drive to succeed, must be comfortable working within a deadline-driven, fast-paced environment
