About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Medical Laboratory Assistant to join our team at Nova Scotia Health and IWK Health. As a Medical Laboratory Assistant, you will play a critical role in supporting the pre and post-analytical phases of testing in our Pathology and Laboratory Medicine department.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Specimen procurement, receipt, and processing
  • Data entry and management
  • Media, reagent, and smear preparation
  • Sterilization and quality control
  • Clerical duties and customer service
  • Supply management and inventory control
  • Troubleshooting and problem-solving

You will work collaboratively with our team to ensure accurate and efficient laboratory operations, maintaining high standards of quality and patient safety. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your skills and contribute to the delivery of high-quality patient care.

About You

We are looking for a candidate with:

  • A recognized Medical Laboratory Assistant Program or equivalent
  • Current registration with the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Basic understanding of medical terminology
  • Strong attention to detail and manual dexterity
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Basic computer skills and experience with Meditech
  • Access to reliable transportation for travel to various locations

Hours and Compensation

We offer a competitive hourly rate of $26.27 and a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage, as well as a defined benefit pension plan.

Successful candidates may be eligible for our benefits package and will be required to work rotating shifts, weekends, and/or holidays, as needed.
