About the Opportunity

The Nova Scotia Health Authority is seeking a Medical Laboratory Assistant to join our team. As a Medical Laboratory Assistant, you will work in collaboration with and support all members of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine by performing various functions relating to the pre and post-analytical phases of testing. These functions can include specimen procurement, data entry, media preparation, sterilization, clerical duties, and loading specimens on an analyzer. Additional responsibilities may include supply management, troubleshooting, and customer service activities.

About You

We are looking for a candidate with a recognized Medical Laboratory Assistant Program or equivalent, who has successfully completed the Medical Laboratory Assistant examinations of the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) and has current registration with CSMLS. The ideal candidate will have strong written and verbal communication skills, basic understanding of medical terminology, and manual dexterity to handle sharp instruments and small objects. The ability to accurately number and label specimens and file slides and requisitions is also essential.

Hours

Casual, short and long assignments and permanent positions are available. Shifts may include days, nights, weekends and holidays. Travel to various sites may be required. These are Healthcare bargaining unit positions.

Compensation and Incentives

$23.19 - $26.27 Hourly
