Job Summary

We are seeking a Medical Laboratory Assistant to join our team at the Nova Scotia Health Authority. As a Medical Laboratory Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting the laboratory team in the collection, processing, and analysis of patient samples.

Responsibilities
  • Collect blood, tissue, or other samples from patients in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Set up and maintain medical laboratory equipment, ensuring it is in good working order.
  • Clean and maintain the medical laboratory and laboratory equipment, adhering to infection control protocols.
  • Process incoming requisitions, ensuring accurate and timely processing.
  • Assist with the preparation of patient samples for testing, following established protocols.
  • Participate in quality control and quality assurance activities, ensuring compliance with laboratory standards.
  • Collaborate with laboratory staff to ensure smooth laboratory operations.
Requirements
  • Education: College/CEGEP diploma in a related field.
  • Experience: Previous experience in a medical laboratory setting is an asset.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in MS Outlook and MEDITECH.
  • Language: English.
  • Work Conditions: Fast-paced environment, bending, crouching, kneeling, attention to detail, manual dexterity.
