About the Opportunity

We are seeking a skilled Food Production Worker to join our team at Nova Scotia Health and IWK Health. As a key member of our food service team, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality, safe, and nutritious food to our patients, clients, and customers.

The successful candidate will be responsible for performing routine assigned duties in meal preparation, heating/reheating of food, meal service, cafeteria and catering service, and cleaning related to providing quality food. You will work independently, using sound professional judgment and initiative, to ensure that food is prepared and served in a timely and efficient manner.

This is a casual relief position, requiring flexibility and adaptability to work varying shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. You will be working in a fast-paced environment, where attention to detail and ability to multitask are essential.

We are looking for a team player who is passionate about delivering exceptional customer service, has excellent communication skills, and is able to work effectively in a collaborative environment. About You
  • Grade XII or equivalent
  • Minimum one (1) year experience in cooking and food preparation
  • Successful completion of Food Handlers Course within the past five years
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with other staff, clients, and management
  • Willingness to learn, accept direction, and work effectively in a team environment following established policies and procedures
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to follow written and oral instructions
  • Demonstrated ability to use sound professional judgment, initiative, and problem-solving skills
  • Commitment to promoting a culture of respect that supports safety, ethical practices, cultural awareness, and organizational health
  • Physical capabilities to perform duties of the position, including heavy lifting, working flexible hours, withstanding the demands of walking and standing during shifts, and working in an environment with heat and temperature fluctuations
  • Travel between sites will be required
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
