About the Role
Service Corporation International is seeking a dedicated and experienced Funeral Director or Apprentice to contribute to our mission of providing exceptional service to families in their time of need. This position offers a unique opportunity to work in a combined funeral and cemetery environment, emphasizing community engagement and support.
Key Responsibilities
Client Engagement
Initiate contact with the deceased's next of kin, demonstrating empathy and professionalism. Gather essential information, schedule arrangement appointments, and confirm details with the family.
May conduct removals or transfers in accordance with company policies, ensuring respectful care of the deceased.
Welcome families and guide them through the arrangement process, assessing their needs and outlining available services, including life insurance options and benefits.
Facilitate the transition to a Funeral Services Counselor for further discussions on cemetery property and service contracts.
Service Direction
Authorize and oversee service arrangements, acting as Master of Ceremonies for visitations, funerals, or graveside services. Ensure compliance with company standards and family expectations throughout the service.
Inspect arrangements and address any discrepancies, providing guidance to team members as necessary.
Engage with families to fulfill their death care requests and identify opportunities for pre-need services.
Event Coordination
Manage various aspects of event planning, including resource allocation and the procurement of music, flowers, and catering services. Create memorial products and prepare event spaces to meet family needs.
Perform attendant duties as required, representing the company at community events.
General Responsibilities
Work under general supervision, applying knowledge of industry regulations and company policies. Collaborate with peers and management to ensure high-quality service delivery.
Demonstrate accountability and initiative in discussing assignments and seeking guidance when needed.
Qualifications
Graduated from an accredited mortuary science program.
Possess a valid Funeral Director license as mandated by provincial regulations.
Hold a valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
Experience and Skills
- Previous experience in the funeral industry is preferred.
Exhibit strong cognitive abilities, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to professional development.
Possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage effectively with families and colleagues.
Work Environment
Work may be conducted both indoors and outdoors, requiring professional attire when interacting with families. Flexibility in availability is essential, as services may occur outside of standard business hours.
