About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Produce Category Manager to join our team at Flanagan Foodservice Inc. This is an exciting opportunity to lead our Fresh Produce category and drive business growth through strategic planning, vendor management, and data analysis.

Key Responsibilities
  • Category Strategy Development: Create and execute a comprehensive strategy for the produce category, including planning, pricing strategy, promotional planning, and vendor management.
  • Forecasting and Sales Growth: Develop forecasting and achieve category sales goals, profit dollars, and growth objectives.
  • Market Analysis and Insights: Analyze produce category data, including sales performance, market trends, and customer feedback, to identify opportunities for growth and improvement.
  • Subject Matter Expertise: Serve as the Produce Subject Matter Expert (SME), staying abreast of category trends, commodity markets information, line product performance, competitor's knowledge, and local preferences.
  • Vendor Management: Manage selected supplier and vendor relationships, including negotiation of pricing, terms, and contracts, to ensure the best possible assortment and pricing for customers.
  • Assortment Management: Manage assortment, including item setup and maintenance, follow and help shape pricing strategy, and lead shelf allocation process.
  • Seasonal Product Assortment: Develop, implement, and monitor seasonal product assortment.
  • Marketing Strategies: Support development of marketing strategies for applicable categories.
  • Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with all departments across the organization.
  • Employee Education: Educate team members on existing and new products.
  • Special Projects: Participate in special projects as assigned.
  • Food Safety and Quality: Ensure compliance with food safety and quality standards, and work with relevant stakeholders to address issues or concerns in a timely manner.
  • Continuous Improvement: Drive continuous improvement to support the growth of the produce category, through data-driven analysis, and collaboration with internal teams.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, agriculture, or related field preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience in one of the following areas: replenishment buying/procurement, merchandising, category management, Foodservice operations, and/or brand management.
  • Subject Matter Expertise: Subject Matter Expert (SME): Fresh Produce.
  • Industry Knowledge: Deep understanding of produce industry dynamics, including supply chain management, sourcing practices, and quality standards.
  • Leadership Abilities: Demonstrated leadership abilities to drive results within a fast-paced environment.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret data and draw insights.
  • Communication Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Attention to Detail: Excellent attention to detail.
  • Travel Requirements: Ability to travel independently.
  • Class G Driver's License: Class G Driver's license and the use of a personal vehicle for work-related and overnight travel.
