Job Summary:
The Macaulay Child Development Centre is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Early Childhood Assistant to join our team at the George Syme Child Care Centre. As a key member of our staff, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality programs and services to children and families.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise children to ensure their safety and well-being at all times while in care.
- Assist with planning, executing, and evaluating daily programming to promote children's optimal emotional, cognitive, and physical development.
- Encourage active learning and build self-esteem in an inclusive and respectful environment.
- Observe children's strengths, areas of challenge, emerging skills, and interests.
- Collaborate with the team to implement inclusive program plans.
- Record observations to support early identification of a child's individual needs.
- Demonstrate positive adult/child interaction and use effective communication with children.
- Communicate sensitively and appropriately with parents/families.
- Participate in classroom set-up, including play areas.
- Work with the team to effectively manage children's medication schedule and allergies.
- Perform housekeeping duties as assigned or needed.
Qualifications:
- Graduate of an Early Childhood Assistant program or equivalent with experience working with families and children, including children with special needs.
- Member in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators (if applicable).
- Working knowledge of ELECT, Play-Based curriculum, and program planning based on an inclusion model respectful of all children's abilities.
- Good written and verbal communication skills and excellent listening skills.
- Computer literacy and proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite, Internet, and email.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective work partnerships with parents/families, colleagues, and service providers of diverse backgrounds, abilities, and identities.
- Ability to communicate effectively in more than one language (a definite asset).
- Acceptable Vulnerable Police Record Check.
- Current Standard First Aid certification and appropriate medical and immunization record.
Salary and Benefits:
The Macaulay Child Development Centre offers a competitive salary and benefits package, including a Trained Assistant Salary Scale (starting at $44,959 - $45,886 per annum) and a comprehensive benefits package (health and dental) and paid time off entitlements (vacation days and float days).
