About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Occupational Health and Safety Manager to join our team at Det'on Cho Management LP. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining a comprehensive Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) program across all our enterprises.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Develop and Execute OHS Program: Develop and execute effective procedures to enhance the OHS program, review the program annually, and identify policies and procedures needing revision or development.
  2. Collaborate with Senior Management: Solicit input for changes to policies and procedures at all levels of the organization, communicate and implement changes in collaboration with Senior Management.
  3. Monitor Compliance: Monitor compliance with policies and procedures and provide feedback to Senior Management.
  4. Evaluate Health and Safety Practices: Evaluate health and safety practices and procedures for risk assessment and following legal guidelines.
  5. Ensure Compliance with Regulations: Ensure that the location completes monthly inspections, participate in each location's inspections annually or as hazard identification training, and ensure consistent data collection.
  6. Provide Analysis and Recommendations: Provide monthly analysis for inspection with managers and supervisors to conduct investigations to find causes and take preventive measures for further recommendations for preventing or eliminating risks/hazards.
  7. Identify Trends and Communicate: Identify trends in incidents and communicate with the senior OHS Manager, who will also be the point of contact with regulatory agencies for all accidents and injuries.
  8. Oversee Return-to-Work Program: Oversee the Return-to-Work Program—ensure that employees who have taken leave due to illness or injury return and integrate successfully.
  9. Support Managers and Employees: Support managers and employees regarding regulatory agency claims, capturing them in the incident management database and providing support to management and employees as gaps arise, recommending OHS training.
  10. Develop Training Needs: Develop the organization's annual training needs to ensure compliance with legislation and company standards for new hire orientation.
  11. Communicate Safety Expectations: Outline the Company's high expectations regarding safety rules and training and presentations on health and safety matters and accident compliance with all applicable legislation and standards.
  12. Maintain Records and Reports: Maintain records, submit reports, and perform up-to-date on relevant legislation.
  13. Represent the Organization: Represent the organization and act as the point person for communication with regulatory agencies, interacting with provincial and federal agencies requiring deliverable reporting.
  14. Stay Informed about Changes: Stay informed about changes in safety regulations and standards applicable to the organization.
  15. Assess Risk and Solve Problems: Apply expertise to assess risk and solve problems of varying tasks.
  16. Review and Lead Risk Assessments: Review and lead risk assessments for new projects and enforce preventative measures.
  17. Support Senior Management: Support senior management on various safety issues that impact the wider industry group.
  18. Participate in Project Meetings: Participate in project start-up meetings and understand the scope of work on projects.
  19. Provide Reports: Provide reports to Management/Senior Management/Human Resources on OH&S issues.
  20. Meet Obligations: Assist in meeting obligations under relevant Occupational Health & Safety legislation, such as ongoing safety education, hazard identification, and elimination.
  21. Provide OHS Coaching: Provide direct OHS coaching to site JOSH committees, management, and employees.
  22. Manage Site Docs System: Manage the Site Docs System and ensure completion of corrective actions that are raised.
  23. Link Corrective Action Process: Link the corrective action accident investigation and root cause analysis process so managers can review accident data and trends.
  24. Establish KPIs: Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure project safety performance.
  25. Conduct Regular Assessments: Conduct regular assessments and audits to evaluate adherence to safety standards and identify areas for improvement.
  26. Provide Timely Reports: Provide timely and accurate safety reports to project management and senior leadership.
  27. Recommend Change: Recommend change based on leading indicators and statistical metrics.
  28. Mentor and Train Staff: Mentor, train, and support the career development of junior to senior staff involved in performing other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
  1. Education and Experience: Education in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or related fields. Years of experience will be considered in lieu.
  2. Minimum of 3-5 Years of Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in safety management.
  3. Relevant Certifications: Relevant professional certifications or memberships (e.g., CRSP, CRST) are advantageous.
  4. Comprehensive Knowledge of Regulations: Thorough comprehension of Federal, Provincial, and local regulations regarding Occupational Health and Safety.
  5. Strong Communication and Leadership Skills: Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  6. Ability to Work in a Fast-Paced Environment: Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  7. Ability to Travel and Relocate: Ability to freely access all points of a work site in wide-ranging climates and environments. Willingness to travel and relocate to project sites as needed.
  8. Strong Written and Verbal Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  9. Good Attention to Detail: Good attention to detail, with the ability to recognize discrepancies.
  10. Strong Work Ethic: Strong work ethic - Willing to do what it takes to get the job done.
