Position Overview:

The Protective Services department operates continuously, ensuring a high standard of safety and security for all individuals within our facilities, including patients, visitors, and staff. Our approach integrates closely with clinical partners, focusing on patient and family-centered care while prioritizing exceptional customer service. As the law enforcement and emergency response unit, Protective Services adheres to various legislative and policy frameworks to facilitate healthcare delivery and access. The Protective Services Officer II plays a crucial role in engaging with diverse populations, each with distinct needs, to maintain a secure environment for quality healthcare access.

Key Responsibilities:

In the role of Protective Services Officer II, your responsibilities will encompass:

  • Monitoring and preventing violence, along with intervention strategies.
  • Enforcing relevant federal, provincial, and municipal laws.
  • Conducting asset protection and internal investigations.
  • Preparing legal documentation and securing evidence.
  • Performing risk assessments and identifying potential hazards.
  • Executing arrests, apprehensions, and detentions, while responding to critical incidents.

You will also provide guidance to facility departments regarding security and safety protocols, participate in policy review and recommendations, and cultivate positive public relations through effective collaboration with both internal and external stakeholders.

Employee Class: Casual/Relief

Salary Range: $33.42 - $38.27

Qualifications Required:

A high school diploma or equivalent is necessary. Candidates must be active or eligible for appointment as a Community Peace Officer with public enforcement duties as designated by the Province of Alberta/Solicitor General. Successful completion of the Community Peace Officer Induction Training Program is required. A valid Class 5 (non-GDL) Driver's License and a completed Physical Abilities Requirement Evaluation (P.A.R.E.) within the last six months are also mandatory.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to applicants with two years of post-secondary education in law enforcement or criminal justice. Two years of relevant security or law enforcement experience is preferred, along with WHMIS training. Certifications in CPI Non-violent Crisis Intervention and Pressure Point Control Tactics, as well as current First Aid and CPR Level C - AED certification, are advantageous.
