Position Overview:

The Protective Services department operates continuously, providing essential safety and security measures for all individuals within our facilities, including patients, visitors, and staff. Our team of sworn Community Peace Officers collaborates closely with clinical partners to deliver a patient-centered approach, prioritizing exceptional customer service. As the designated law enforcement and emergency response unit, we adhere to various regulatory frameworks to facilitate healthcare access and delivery. The Protective Services Officer II plays a critical role in engaging with diverse populations, each with distinct needs, to maintain a secure environment conducive to quality healthcare.

Key Responsibilities:

In the role of Protective Services Officer II, your duties will encompass:

  • Monitoring and addressing potential violence, ensuring proactive prevention and intervention.
  • Enforcing relevant federal, provincial, and municipal laws.
  • Conducting asset protection and internal investigations.
  • Preparing legal documentation and securing evidence.
  • Performing risk assessments and identifying hazards.
  • Executing arrests, apprehensions, and detentions as necessary, while responding to critical incidents.
  • Providing guidance on security and safety protocols to facility departments.
  • Participating in policy review and recommendations.
  • Building and maintaining positive relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.

Employee Class: Casual/Relief

Salary Range: $33.42 - $38.27 per hour

Qualifications:

Applicants must possess a high school diploma or equivalent and be actively eligible for appointment as a Community Peace Officer with public enforcement responsibilities as designated by the Province of Alberta/Solicitor General. Successful completion of the Community Peace Officer Induction Training Program is required. A valid Class 5 (non-GDL) Driver's License and a completed Physical Abilities Requirement Evaluation (P.A.R.E.) under 4:45 minutes within the last six months are also necessary.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to candidates with:

  • Two years of post-secondary education in law enforcement or criminal justice.
  • Two years of relevant security or law enforcement experience.
  • WHMIS training.
  • Certification in CPI Non-violent Crisis Intervention and Pressure Point Control Tactics.
  • Current First Aid and CPR Level C - AED certification.
