PurposeThe Operational Risk Analyst plays a crucial role in the successful implementation of JFL's regulatory and operational risk strategies. This position ensures that specific individual objectives and initiatives are executed in alignment with the team's goals, while also ensuring that business operations comply with relevant regulations, internal policies, and procedures. The individual will actively contribute to achieving results by collaborating with internal stakeholders and support teams to meet both regulatory and risk management frameworks.
Key Responsibilities- Foster a client-centric culture to enhance client relationships.
- Assist in the daily management of the firm's non-financial risks, which includes:
- Monitoring and supervising first-line management of operational, regulatory compliance, and anti-money laundering/terrorist financing risks;
- Ensuring adherence to governing regulations and internal policies while collaborating with business and support teams to align strategic approaches;
- Identifying gaps and opportunities for improvement within the existing Business Controls framework, and participating in the development and implementation of enhancements to the firm's risk practices, controls, policies, and procedures;
- Supporting JFL's risk oversight partnerships and engagements, including regulatory reviews, audits, testing reviews, and risk assessments.
- Build and maintain collaborative relationships with key stakeholders, partners, and senior management at Jarislowsky Fraser, including first-line teams and second-line control teams, by providing consistent, timely, and accurate information;
- Stay informed about regulatory and operational risk requirements, developments, and best practices to offer ongoing and proactive support to the business regarding products, programs, and initiatives;
- Understand how JFL's risk appetite and culture should influence daily activities and decision-making.
- Undergraduate or college degree in Business, Economics, or a related field.
- 3+ years of relevant experience in brokerage, investments, risk and controls, compliance, or a related area.
- Strong analytical skills, problem-solving abilities, and attention to detail.
- Excellent multi-tasking, planning, organizational, and time-management skills.
- Self-motivated and capable of working independently as well as collaboratively within a team, prioritizing tasks and seeking assistance when necessary.
- Results-oriented with a track record of high achievement.
- Consistent, reliable, and disciplined work ethic.
- Proficient in Microsoft applications and familiar with internet-related tools.
- Basic programming knowledge is advantageous.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, in English and French.
As per a language needs assessment conducted by Scotiabank, the successful candidate will be required to communicate effectively in English in addition to French, as collaboration with other groups operating primarily in English is essential.
