Position Overview: The After-Hours Manager plays a crucial role in overseeing the operations of the healthcare facility during evening and weekend shifts. This position ensures that all aspects of patient care and staff management are executed efficiently and effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the on-site Manager and primary escalation point for operational issues, providing support to staff during scheduled after-hours shifts.
  • Oversee the overall operations of the hospital and long-term care home, ensuring timely patient transfers, high-quality care, and adequate staffing levels.
  • Conduct regular rounds in clinical areas to verify compliance with organizational policies and procedures.
  • Authorize and optimize staff resource utilization, including staff replacements and reassignments, to maintain appropriate staffing levels and skill mixes.
  • Promote a patient- and family-centered care approach, collaborating with interprofessional team members to address concerns raised by patients and families.
  • Foster a supportive work environment by assisting staff in problem-solving, conflict management, and resolution facilitation.
  • Act as a knowledgeable resource during urgent and crisis situations, including Emergency Codes and Incident Management System meetings.
  • Ensure compliance with all legislative requirements for Acute Care and Ministry of Health & Long-Term Care, as well as professional and accreditation standards.
  • Provide leadership for reporting requirements mandated by the Ministry of Long-Term Care during critical incidents, coordinating with unit managers for follow-up.
  • Champion health and safety practices, as well as infection prevention and control measures within the workplace.
  • Engage with external agencies, community partners, and the public as necessary.
  • Document shift activities to ensure continuity of care and effective transfer of accountability to subsequent after-hours managers or clinical managers.
  • Initiate discussions with staff regarding performance issues identified during shifts, documenting and communicating these to respective managers for follow-up.
  • Act as the primary contact after hours for the distribution of additional supplies as needed.
  • Work hours include evenings, weekends, and holidays, with occasional weekday shifts.

Qualifications:

  • Current membership in good standing with a Regulated Health Discipline Professional College in Ontario.
  • Baccalaureate Degree with a Master's Degree achieved or evidence of a Master's Degree in progress.
  • Current and valid Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification.
  • Significant experience in the hospital and long-term care sector, with a minimum of 3 years in progressive leadership roles.
  • Ability to engage and support staff in their job responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated excellence in written and verbal communication, interpersonal skills, conflict resolution, and negotiation.
  • Highly developed critical thinking skills, with the ability to analyze problems and make informed decisions quickly.
  • Proven ability to work independently, exercising judgment and initiative.
  • Excellent time management skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple activities while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in computer applications and industry information systems.
  • Knowledge of collective agreements and relevant legislation impacting the workplace.
  • Experience with staff scheduling, labor relations, and hospital operations.
  • Satisfactory attendance record.
