Project Management Associate

COB_4228 Bird General Contractors Ltd. is a prominent entity in the construction industry in Canada, boasting a legacy of over a century. We are in search of a Project Management Associate to become a vital member of our proactive team. This role is instrumental in steering, coordinating, and overseeing the daily functions of the designated project. This leadership position is accountable for the comprehensive performance of the project, encompassing budget, timeline, quality, project advancement, and adherence to company protocols.

Key Responsibilities:

Pre-Construction Phase:

  • Assist the Project Manager in formulating the preconstruction information workflow, key performance indicators, and monthly progress reports.
  • Support project initiation and documentation management under the guidance of the Project Manager.
  • Engage in pre-construction planning activities, which include upcoming timelines, health, safety, and environmental strategies, procurement, construction logistics, and project execution plans.
  • Facilitate the submission of tender documents, propose subcontractor tender lists to clients, and categorize subcontract agreement expenses.
  • Help in acquiring all essential permits and approvals from local authorities for construction activities.
  • Collaborate with team members to identify, recommend, develop, implement, and support a profitable project execution.

Construction Phase:

  • Participate in price adjustments, monitor requests for information, review and coordinate workshop drawing approvals, and manage information exchange with subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Prepare and update the project budget, timeline, and cost reports during the construction phase under the Project Manager's direction.
  • Assist in maintaining the project's primary weekly schedule and ensure alignment with the Superintendent's expectations.
  • Support the establishment of the billing schedule with the client and execute billing processes.
  • Assist in subcontractor management, including monitoring notice periods and value increases.
  • Help in payment management, conflict resolution, and subcontractor performance assessments.
  • Oversee subcontractor submissions.
  • Foster and maintain positive relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and suppliers.
  • Assist the Project Manager in ensuring that project health, safety, and environmental standards comply with legislative requirements and company policies.

Post-Construction Phase:

  • Assist in addressing deficiencies and warranty period concerns.
  • Support the Project Manager in ensuring complete project closure, including contractual and financial aspects.
  • Assist in project finalization, including completion reports, final purchase orders, and outstanding expenses.

Qualifications:

  • A university degree in engineering or construction management, or equivalent experience.
  • Eligible for or possessing E.I.T., P. Eng., CET, or PQS designations.
  • Experience in industrial construction.
  • 3-5 years of hands-on experience in construction management, including cost estimation and direct oversight of large industrial construction projects.
  • Proven leadership, project management, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Expertise in safety, workforce management, project execution, cost control, quality assurance, and administration.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and interpret contractual documents, drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and project timelines.
  • Familiarity with the Viewpoint project management system is considered advantageous.
  • Capability to manage multiple priorities concurrently and meet unpredictable activity time requirements; able to thrive under pressure and challenges in a dynamic business environment.
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Strong analytical skills, critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to collaborate with a positive attitude.
