Greetings, I am Kerwin, the Head of Engineering at Bankonloop, and we are looking for a Backend Development Engineer to enhance our team. This position is based in our downtown office.

Your Role

We are in search of a proficient Backend Developer to become an integral part of our expanding team, focusing on the development of our advanced financial services platform. You will be responsible for the backend architecture, leveraging your skills in Python and Ruby to build scalable and secure systems. Your contributions will be vital in reshaping how businesses interact with financial services. You will collaborate with fellow developers and engineers to implement innovative features, ensuring a seamless user experience and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead the development, deployment, and upkeep of new functionalities.

- Work alongside cross-functional teams to design and enhance Bankonloop's internal tools.

- Collaborate with senior developers to maintain and structure the core infrastructure that supports new functionalities.

- Conduct code reviews for team members through formal pull request evaluations.

- Apply best practices from your previous experiences to enhance the team and our software ecosystem.

- Develop and optimize automation processes for transactions, ledger reconciliation, and statement generation.

- Define APIs for both internal and external operations in partnership with other developers.

- Troubleshoot production issues across various services and levels of the stack.

Qualifications

- A minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience with most or all technologies in our backend stack: Ruby on Rails, PostgreSQL, and Django.

- Familiarity with automated testing frameworks applicable to common web frameworks.

- Strong foundational programming skills, including data structures and algorithms.

- Proficient in version control systems, particularly Git.

- Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies.

- Enthusiastic about taking ownership of the software you develop.

- Solid understanding of the SOLID principles.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Experience in building and managing a suite of third-party integrations.

- Background in developing backend software with a focus on security (OWASP).

- Previous experience in creating applications for the financial services sector.

Our Technical Environment

- Core Technologies: Ruby on Rails, Django, React, TypeScript, AWS, Heroku.

- API Technologies: GraphQL and REST.

What We Provide

- Competitive salary range of CAD $80,000-$130,000 annually, based on experience.

Interview Process Overview

- Initial 30-minute video call to discuss the opportunity and organization with Kerwin, Head of Engineering.

- 60-minute in-person meeting with two members of the Engineering team.

- Take-home assignment.
