About Radical I/O Technology Inc.
We are a people-centric software development consultancy focused on creating technology that serves a purpose. Our mission is to collaborate with municipalities and organizations to deliver impactful, data-driven solutions that ensure easy access to vital information.
About SimpliCity Digital
Our affiliated company, SimpliCity Digital, is an innovative govtech startup based in Vancouver. They have recently introduced their SimpliCity SaaS platform, which has already garnered interest from its first municipal client, the District of North Vancouver. This platform integrates a flexible API-first headless content management system (CMS), a web console for content creation, an integration services layer, and a robust Canadian cloud-hosted website publishing and hosting solution on Microsoft Azure, all aimed at enhancing municipal digital transformation and online service delivery.
Position OverviewThe role of Senior Fullstack JavaScript Engineer is ideal for an individual eager to shape their position and grow alongside our organization. As the inaugural permanent hire for SimpliCity, you will engage in a broad spectrum of development tasks, encompassing both backend and frontend responsibilities. You will serve as a senior technical advisor to our CTO and future engineering team members. Your initial responsibilities will include developing JSON REST APIs, React components, web applications, MySQL databases, and managing security and identity protocols, as well as utilizing Azure cloud services, docker deployments, and logging systems. You will also have the opportunity to explore new technologies and contribute to technical design discussions.
While you are proficient in JavaScript, your interests span multiple programming languages and technologies, as you are passionate about learning and applying new skills both professionally and personally. Proven expertise in at least one specialty area (backend, frontend, devops, etc.) is essential. Typically, you have experience working on medium to large-scale web applications and understand the expectations of enterprise clients.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in government, public sector, education, or non-profit software development is advantageous, as is familiarity with MACH principles (Microservices, API-first, Cloud-native, Headless).
Work EnvironmentThis is a permanent, full-time position with a 4-day work week (Monday to Thursday), totaling 32 hours. Our team operates remotely within Canada, and we require that your working hours align with our core team hours.
CompensationThe salary range for this position is competitive, reflecting your skills and experience.
Key Skills and ExperienceTo excel in this role, you should possess:
- Expertise in JavaScript, particularly with Node and React, along with proficiency in HTML and CSS.
- Extensive experience in multiple development areas, such as frontend and backend JavaScript, REST API services, cloud infrastructure, and system integrations.
- A minimum of 6 years in fullstack web development or equivalent experience.
- A degree in computer science or equivalent training, with a solid grasp of programming concepts and software design principles.
- Experience with municipal software systems and headless CMS platforms is a plus.
Personal Attributes
You should be a proactive problem-solver, comfortable navigating ambiguity, and dedicated to continuous learning. Strong communication and collaboration skills are essential, as is the ability to balance client requirements with agile development practices. You should thrive in a dynamic startup environment and be motivated by the opportunity to make a positive impact.
We are committed to fostering diversity within our team and encourage applications from individuals whose identities are underrepresented in the tech industry. If you possess relevant life skills and a passion for technology, we would love to hear from you.
Growth OpportunitiesAs the company evolves, there may be opportunities for you to transition into roles such as Technical Team Lead, Principal Engineer, or Solutions Architect, depending on your interests and interpersonal skills.
We value a collaborative and inclusive culture, and we appreciate individuals who can build consensus and engage effectively with team members and stakeholders. As a senior member of our team, you will have the chance to participate in industry events and contribute to knowledge-sharing through reports and blog posts.
Benefits
- Flexible work culture that embraces individuality.
- Generous time-off policy, including vacation and personal days.
- Health benefits after a specified period of employment.
- Remote work flexibility from anywhere in Canada.
- Future participation in an employee stock ownership program.
