YOUR ROLE
Take a significant step in shaping your professional journey with Stantec. We are seeking a Financial Project Coordinator (FPC) who will report to a Project Accounting Lead (PAL). In this capacity, you will oversee the financial stewardship of a collection of projects, ensuring adherence to Stantec's established controls, policies, and practices.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Manage the financial aspects of projects assigned by the Project Accounting Lead (PAL), including project initiation, ongoing management, invoicing, and project closure.
- Deliver exceptional customer service with a focus on client satisfaction, ensuring that the quality of work consistently meets or surpasses expectations.
- Cultivate strong partnerships and act as a trusted advisor to internal stakeholders, including Project Managers (PM) and Project Manager Assistants (PMA).
- Foster collaborative relationships with fellow Project Accountants and other FST members, such as Finance Managers, Accounts Payable, and Accounts Receivable, to promote teamwork.
- Organize and prioritize tasks independently to ensure timely completion of responsibilities, escalating issues to the PAL as necessary.
- Implement process improvements and procedural changes as directed by management.
- Collaborate with PM and PMA to suggest an appropriate work breakdown structure (WBS), issue accurate and compliant invoices, and perform additional tasks as required.
- Assess project setup and budget modification documentation to ensure compliance with contractual obligations, internal controls, and IFRS standards.
- Work closely with Stantec's finance team to guarantee timely and accurate completion of supported tasks.
- Prepare for internal and external audits and respond to inquiries from PA Leadership and Finance Managers.
QUALIFICATIONS
- A degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related discipline is preferred.
- 0-3 years of relevant experience is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Familiarity with Oracle is a plus but not essential.
- Strong organizational skills, adaptability to change, and meticulous attention to detail are required.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities are essential.
- General accounting knowledge gained through education and/or experience is necessary.
- Strong customer service and communication skills (both written and verbal) are crucial for building effective working relationships.
- Ability to foresee potential implications of actions to minimize financial impacts.
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel is required, with a preference for intermediate understanding.
- Capability to independently review contracts and comprehend terms related to project type, scope of work, and invoicing conditions.
This position is primarily office-based, with the possibility of partial remote work, involving computer use and extended periods of sitting.
