About the Role

This exciting opportunity is based in our Clarkson plant, located in Clarkson, ON, and reports to the HSE Business Partner. As a HSE Specialist, you will be responsible for:

  • Performing safety observations and assisting the location and stakeholders in maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Coordinating the risk management process and supporting the development and implementation of safe work practices.
  • Facilitating the internal audit process to ensure compliance with legal and corporate requirements.
  • Leading gap analysis and developing action plans to drive the safety culture within the site.
  • Supporting and facilitating investigations into HSE non-conformances, accidents, environmental releases, and other incidents.
  • Reporting all relevant incidents to the appropriate workers compensation organizations and/or regulatory authorities.
  • Collaborating and facilitating HSE training programs and adapting them to specific local requirements.
  • Supporting cross-functional teams in the implementation, creation, and modification of site-specific controls, programs, and tools to improve compliance and performance.
  • Supporting internal and external environmental reporting and maintaining summary data.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A recognized degree, diploma, or designation in Health & Safety, Environmental, Engineering, or Human Resources.
  • 2+ years of experience with all applicable types of legislations, laws, and standards relating to health, safety, environment, employment standards (WSIB, MOL, MOE, etc.).
  • 5+ years' experience in Health & Safety within a manufacturing environment, preferably in the plastic industry.
  • Minimum 1-year experience in management systems.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes.
  • Excellent communication skills, including training facilitator skills.
  • Strong computer skills and technical proficiency.
  • Results-driven.
