We have an exciting opportunity as a HSE Specialist, based in our Clarkson plant in Ontario, reporting to the HSE Business Partner.

This role involves regular on-site safety observations, assisting the location and stakeholders, coordinating risk management, and developing and implementing safe work practices to drive the safety culture within the site.

The successful candidate will facilitate the internal audit process to ensure compliance with legal and corporate requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement HSE programs, adapt them to local needs, and develop site-specific procedures, training, and work instructions.
  • Drive site-specific HSE activities and enhance engagement in HSE programs and standard processes.
  • Lead gap analysis and develop action plans.
  • Support and facilitate investigations into HSE non-conformances, accidents, environmental releases, and other incidents.
  • Report incidents to relevant authorities and manage claims.
  • Collaborate and facilitate HSE training programs.
  • Support the Health and Safety committee.
  • Support cross-functional teams in implementing site-specific controls and programs.
  • Support internal and external environmental reporting.
  • Maintain summary data and facilitate reporting on environmental critical metrics.
  • Review and update the hazardous materials program and site-specific training.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Recognized degree, diploma, or designation in Health & Safety, Environmental, Engineering, or Human Resources.
  • 2+ years of experience with applicable legislations, laws, and standards.
  • 5+ years of experience in Health & Safety within a manufacturing environment, preferably in the plastic industry.
  • Minimum 1-year experience in management systems.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes.
  • Excellent communication skills and training facilitator skills.
  • Strong computer skills and technical proficiency.
  • Results-driven.
