Position Overview

This role requires a commitment of 0.6 FTE, which translates to a guaranteed maximum of 45 hours per pay period. The Clinical Practice Support Nurse for Unregulated Care Providers (UCPs) is a temporary full-time position intended for a registered practical nurse tasked with enhancing the development of Patient Service Partners (PSPs). Responsibilities include facilitating the onboarding of new personnel, offering clinical mentorship to PSPs, and enhancing the integration of clinical teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Facilitate collaboration between unit teams and PSPs to ensure necessary patient care is delivered.
  • Assist in the integration of team processes and clarify roles.
  • Maintain a consistent presence in units to address ongoing mentorship requirements.
  • Support the real-time reinforcement of essential skills for UCPs within clinical units.
  • Collaborate with the Clinical Nurse Educator to contribute to the onboarding of PSPs by developing, modifying, and delivering orientation and educational resources.
  • Identify and communicate additional learning needs or practice gaps to the appropriate Clinical Nurse Educator.
  • Report performance concerns to the relevant manager.
  • Engage in the review and revision of policies and procedures impacting UCPs.
  • Advocate for UCP wellness and promote team well-being.

Qualifications

  • Registered Practical Nurse in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience within the last 2 years in frontline care across various inpatient medical/surgical hospital clinical settings, including medicine, surgery, cancer, or palliative care.
  • Demonstrated excellent clinical skills and competencies.
  • Exceptional communication abilities.
  • Prior experience in teaching, mentoring learners, or preceptoring is required.
  • Experience as a Clinical Instructor or placement supervisor is preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Understanding of infection prevention and control practices.
  • Proficient in conflict resolution.
  • Commitment to upholding patient and staff safety policies that promote a safe and inclusive environment.
  • Dedication to delivering an outstanding experience for both staff and clients in a dynamic healthcare setting.
