Position Overview

The Clinical Nurse (RN) exemplifies clinical excellence and adheres to the core competencies as outlined by the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO), along with the policies and procedures of Southlake Regional Health Centre. The RN collaborates effectively as a vital member of the healthcare team, delivering direct patient care in accordance with the standards established by the CNO. This standard influences decision-making regarding care-provider assignments and necessitates consultation and collaboration among healthcare providers. All nursing professionals are committed to continuous learning.

The ideal candidate will be proactive, self-motivated, and an integral part of a dynamic interdisciplinary team focused on delivering high-quality patient care and optimizing patient flow. Responsibilities include providing outstanding care to a diverse population of acute medical patients in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver patient and family-centered care within the RN scope of practice, adhering to the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Operate in compliance with established hospital policies and procedures, including emergency protocols.
  • Ensure practice aligns with entry-to-practice competencies, standards, guidelines, and legislation.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and all members of the healthcare team.
  • Collaborate with healthcare team members to provide comprehensive care for patients with complex health conditions.
  • Provide guidance and clinical support to colleagues as necessary.
  • Contribute to the ongoing assessment and documentation of each patient's health status.
  • Assist in the formulation and implementation of the Plan of Care, evaluating its effectiveness regularly.
  • Support the orientation and mentorship of new staff members and students within clinical units.
  • Act as a role model, integrating safe and best practices into daily activities to ensure exemplary care delivery.
  • Take a leadership role in coordinating patient care within assigned areas.
  • Assume charge nurse responsibilities when designated.
  • Utilize human and material resources effectively.
  • Participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of clinical pathways.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

  • Current RN Certificate of Registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • BScN is preferred.
  • Certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS).
  • Certification in Rehabilitation Nursing (CRRN) and/or Orthopaedic Certificate is an asset.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in rehabilitation and/or orthopaedics.
  • Recent experience in surgical and/or rehabilitation nursing is advantageous.
  • Membership in the Rehab Nurses Interest Group (RNIG) and/or Association of Rehabilitation Nurses (ARN) and/or Canadian Orthopaedic Nurses Association (CONA) is preferred.
  • Exemplary communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong problem assessment abilities.
  • Commitment to customer service and teamwork.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities.
