Clinical Nurse – Musculoskeletal Care

Position Overview
The Clinical Nurse (RN) exemplifies clinical excellence and adheres to the core competencies as outlined by the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO), alongside the policies and procedures of Southlake Regional Health Centre. The RN collaborates effectively as a vital member of the healthcare team, delivering direct patient care in accordance with the standards established by the College of Nurses of Ontario. This standard influences decision-making regarding care-provider assignments and the necessity for consultation and collaboration among care providers. All nursing professionals are committed to continuous learning.
The ideal candidate will be proactive, self-motivated, and an integral part of a dynamic interdisciplinary team with clearly defined roles aimed at ensuring quality patient care and efficient patient flow. Responsibilities include providing exceptional care to a diverse population of acute medical patients in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver patient and family-centered care within the RN scope of practice, adhering to the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Operate in compliance with established hospital policies and procedures, including emergency protocols.
- Ensure practice aligns with entry-to-practice competencies, standards, guidelines, and legislation.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and all members of the healthcare team.
- Collaborate with healthcare team members to provide care for patients with complex health issues.
- Provide guidance and clinical support to peers as necessary.
- Contribute to the ongoing assessment and documentation of each patient's health status.
- Assist in the development and implementation of the Plan of Care, evaluating its effectiveness.
- Support the orientation and mentorship of new staff members and students.
- Act as a role model to integrate safe, best practices into daily activities, promoting exemplary care.
- Take a leadership role in coordinating patient care in the assigned area.
- Assume charge nurse responsibilities when designated.
- Utilize human and material resources effectively.
- Participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of clinical pathways.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
- Current RN Certificate of Registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- BScN preferred.
- Certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS).
- Certification in Rehabilitation Nursing (CRRN) and/or Orthopaedic Certificate preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills in rehabilitation and/or orthopaedics.
- Recent experience in surgical and/or rehabilitation nursing.
- Membership in the Rehab Nurses Interest Group (RNIG) and/or Association of Rehabilitation Nurses (ARN) and/or Canadian Orthopaedic Nurses Association (CONA) preferred.
- Proven excellence in both written and verbal communication.
- Strong problem assessment skills.
- Commitment to customer service and teamwork.
- Demonstrated individual leadership capabilities.
