Job Summary

The City of Kingston is seeking a highly skilled Engineering Technologist to support the implementation of road safety programs and interventions within our diverse and inclusive community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Manager, Transportation Policy & Programs to execute road safety initiatives and develop strategies to improve transportation networks.
  • Collect and manage transportation data, including traffic counts, speed studies, and pedestrian information, to inform decision-making and optimize transportation systems.
  • Conduct specialized studies and provide input on transportation by-laws to ensure compliance and effectiveness.
  • Coordinate minor improvement projects within the transportation network to enhance safety and efficiency.
  • Work with stakeholders to ensure the safety and efficiency of transportation systems, including pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists.

Qualifications and Competencies

  • Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or equivalent.
  • 3 years of experience in construction and engineering, with a focus on transportation safety and infrastructure development.
  • Registration or eligibility for registration with O.A.C.E.T.T.
  • Corporate competencies: Customer Focus, Results Orientation, Integrity, and Teamwork.

Skills and Abilities

  • Effective communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong negotiation abilities and project management experience, with a focus on delivering results and meeting deadlines.
  • Proficiency in reading engineering drawings and technical manuals, with a strong understanding of transportation systems and infrastructure.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks to meet project deadlines and deliver results.
  • Knowledge of software such as Word, Excel, AutoCAD, and GIS, with experience in data analysis and visualization.
