At KPMG, you will become part of a diverse team of dedicated professionals, united by a shared mission: transforming insights into opportunities for clients and communities globally.
In today's landscape, evolving community demographics, heightened business activities, governance challenges, intricate financial systems, and a scarcity of investment capital and training are pivotal considerations for businesses, non-profits, governmental bodies, and entrepreneurs. Establishing strong connections among businesses, educational institutions, government agencies, and healthcare partners is crucial for achieving successful outcomes.
KPMG's Indigenous Client Services (ICS) team addresses the distinct needs of Indigenous organizations, communities, and cultures throughout Canada. With extensive experience across various industries and sectors, we collaborate with our clients, equipping them with the technical expertise and insights essential for their success.
We are seeking a Senior Tax Manager to join our Indigenous client services team. This role presents an excellent opportunity to enhance your skills, cater to the unique requirements of Indigenous organizations and communities across Canada, broaden your internal and external networks, and play a vital role in the expansion of our practice.

- Collaborate with First Nations clients and Indigenous-led organizations to lead client engagements effectively.
- Work closely with team members as a senior contributor on tax planning initiatives for clients.
- Apply knowledge of the Indian Act in client interactions.
- Organize teams for tax return preparation and conduct thorough tax research presentations.
- Provide advice on planning opportunities, tax minimization strategies, and compliance challenges.
- Guide clients on tax exemptions under Section 87 of the Indian Act and potential exemptions available under Section 149 of the Income Tax Act.
- Review junior staff's work for accuracy and completeness.
- Join the tax engagement team to address client needs effectively.
- Offer ongoing support and mentorship for the professional growth of team members.
- Cultivate and maintain respectful relationships with Indigenous clients in First Nations communities, businesses, non-profits, and entrepreneurial roles.
- Professional accounting designation.
- A minimum of 7 years of specialized experience in tax within public accounting is preferred.
- Enrollment in or completion of the CPA In Depth Tax program is advantageous.
- Strong understanding of Indigenous Culture, Governance, Treaties and Rights, Reconciliation, and Indigenous History in Canada.
- Experience working directly with Indigenous communities, governments, and associations.
- Familiarity with the Indian Act and its tax implications.
- Knowledge of Section 149 tax exemptions of the Income Tax Act.
- Understanding of the taxation of trusts and partnerships.
- Experience structuring Indigenous businesses to maintain tax exemptions.
- Background in due diligence, M&A, and structuring relationships between Indigenous and Non-Indigenous businesses is a plus.
- Excellent people management skills.
- Highly motivated individual with a commitment to professional growth.
- Strong client service skills with the ability to comprehend clients' business needs.
- Dedication to achieving high standards of client service and professionalism.
- Focus on quality and value in client offerings and services.
- Strong project management and organizational abilities.
- Capable of managing conflicting demands and priorities effectively.
