Durham College seeks a dedicated and experienced professional to contribute to our commitment to quality education and student success within the Faculty of Science, Engineering, and Information Technology.

We are currently looking for a part-time professor to lead engaging lab sessions for PHRM2103 – Advanced Pharmaceutics.

This course delves into both theoretical principles and practical applications of solid dosage manufacturing and testing. Students will explore various dosage forms, including semi-solids, emulsions, liquids, patches, and aerosols. The course also covers the theory and practice of chemical analyses from a pharmaceutical perspective, emphasizing the application of mathematical calculations used in USP and other regulatory publications.

The lab component provides hands-on experience testing raw materials and finished products within a simulated quality control environment. Students will analyze results against pre-determined acceptance criteria to determine product compliance (pass/fail). The process of out-of-specification investigations will also be taught and practiced.

Part-Time Faculty at Durham College:

Part-time recruitment is ongoing and contingent upon course scheduling needs. Part-time faculty members typically teach up to 6 hours per week, with flexible schedules Monday through Thursday between 8:00 am and 9:00 pm, and Fridays between 8:00 am and 6:00 pm.

Responsibilities of a Durham College Part-Time Professor Include:

  • Cultivating a positive learning environment that embraces students' diverse backgrounds, experiences, and learning styles.
  • Utilizing adult education principles to actively engage students in the learning process.
  • Effectively integrating educational technologies to support learning, manage grades, and deliver hybrid and online courses.
  • Developing curriculum that employs appropriate strategies and tools to assess student learning effectively.
  • Ensuring that course and program content remains current and relevant to industry standards.
  • Working independently with initiative and collaborating effectively with students, the program team, and various stakeholders.

Required Skills:

  • A relevant degree combined with industry credentials (a Master's degree is an asset).
  • A minimum of five years of recent (within the past three years) and relevant work experience in the pharmaceutical field.
  • Proven teaching experience at the post-secondary level, demonstrating a strong understanding and application of Universal Design for Learning and current assessment methodologies.
  • Experience participating in industry-led or community-based applied research is highly valued.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in utilizing current technologies to support student learning and grade management.
  • A commitment to lifelong learning and professional development.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders, including students, faculty, support staff, administrators, and community partners.
  • Understanding of the Ontario college system.
