Island Health is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Associate Physician to join our team in the Emergency Department. As an Associate Physician, you will work collaboratively with our experienced medical team to provide high-quality patient care and contribute to the development of our clinical services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess and treat patients in the Emergency Department, including history and physical examinations, medical orders, and consultation with other services.
  • Order and follow up on diagnostics, complete disposition and discharge planning, and engage effectively with supervising physicians.
  • Perform procedures within the scope of your demonstrated competence, including procedural sedation, anxiolysis, and analgesia, and initiate cardiovascular resuscitation.
  • Communicate effectively and expeditiously with the ED Attending for significant changes in patient medical condition.
  • Function as an effective member of the multidisciplinary team, including nursing, respiratory therapists, and allied health professions.
Requirements
  • Proficient English communication skills, including with patients, families, care givers, and other health care professionals.
  • Effective and efficient computer and written communication skills, including order entry and clinical documentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team-based environment and under the leadership of the assigned leader.
  • Carries out professional duties in the face of multiple, competing demands.
Assessment and Probationary Period

During a 12-week probationary period, you will undergo assessment and evaluation of your competence to perform the duties in the intended specialty areas under a Medical Leader. The evaluation will include assessment of basic clinical skills, communication skills, and the ability and willingness to function as a member of a clinical team.
