Physician Associate

Island Health is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Physician Associate to join our Emergency Department team. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the delivery of exceptional healthcare services.
Key Responsibilities- Clinical Duties
- Assess and treat patients presenting to the Emergency Department, including history and physical examinations, medical orders, and certification under the Mental Health Act.
- Order and follow up on diagnostic tests and procedures.
- Complete disposition and discharge planning.
- Collaborate with supervising physicians to ensure appropriate care and decision-making.
- Perform procedures within the scope of your demonstrated competence, including procedures involved in diagnosis and treatment of acute illnesses, procedural sedation, anxiolysis, and analgesia.
- Insert and manage central lines, perform chest drains, and insert naso-gastric tubes.
- Reduce long bone fractures, cast and splint, and perform gynecologic examinations.
- Communicate effectively and expeditiously with supervising physicians and other healthcare professionals.
- Function as an effective member of the multidisciplinary team, including nursing, respiratory therapists, and allied health professionals.
- Participate in Emergency Department quality improvement initiatives.
- Participate in standardized reporting, evaluation, and professional development activities.
- Proficient English communication skills.
- Effective and efficient computer and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team-based environment and under the leadership of the assigned leader.
- Carries out professional duties in the face of multiple, competing demands.
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position, including evening and overnight shifts.
During a 12-week probationary period, you will undergo assessment and evaluation of your competence to perform the duties in the intended specialty areas under a Medical Leader. The evaluation will include assessment of basic clinical skills, communication skills, ability and willingness to function as a member of a clinical team, specialized knowledge and skills, clinical decision-making, and clinical documentation.
