Island Health is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Physician Associate to join our Emergency Department team. As a key member of our clinical team, you will provide high-quality patient care and work collaboratively with our multidisciplinary team to ensure the best possible outcomes for our patients.
Key Responsibilities- Assess and treat patients presenting to the Emergency Department, including history and physical examinations, medical orders, and consultation with other services.
- Order and follow up on diagnostic tests and procedures, and complete disposition and discharge planning.
- Communicate effectively with the supervising emergency physician and other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless patient care.
- Perform procedures within your scope of practice, including procedural sedation, anxiolysis, and analgesia, and initiate cardiovascular resuscitation and emergency airway management.
- Document patient care and treatment in accordance with Island Health and College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia standards.
- Proficient English communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team-based environment.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
- Ability to work under supervision and within a team environment, with a strong focus on patient safety and quality care.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position, including evening and overnight shifts.
During a 12-week probationary period, you will undergo assessment and evaluation of your competence to perform the duties of the position. This will include assessment of your basic clinical skills, communication skills, ability to function as a member of a clinical team, and specialized knowledge and skills applicable to the intended clinical placement.
