Position Overview

Become a vital member of the British Columbia Institute of Technology's Campus Planning and Facilities team as a full-time Electrical Technician. In this position, you will oversee the upkeep, repair, and installation of a variety of electrical systems throughout the institution, including safety alarms, communication networks, and more.

  • Respond swiftly to service requests and diagnose a diverse array of systems, prioritizing safety for both property and the public.
  • Develop and implement Preventative Maintenance strategies, ensuring adherence to regulatory standards.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance on integrated systems, identify issues, and initiate corrective measures.
  • Estimate labor and material costs for projects, analyze project schematics, and suggest enhancements.
  • Stay informed about technological advancements and regulatory changes, adjusting systems as necessary.
  • Enhance existing systems to improve operational efficiency.
  • Manage inventory of electrical materials and generate work orders.
  • Oversee and evaluate contractor work, ensuring compliance with established standards.
  • Provide recommendations for construction projects and equipment upkeep.
  • Perform minor repairs to building structures and maintain safety alarm systems.
  • Operate mobile lift equipment and document meter readings.
  • Qualifications:
    • Trades Qualification or Interprovincial Trades Ticket is mandatory.
    • Capability to interpret blueprints and work autonomously.
    • Excellent troubleshooting skills and effective communication abilities.
    • Basic computer proficiency is essential.
