Senior Insurance Claims Consultant

Position Overview:
The Senior Insurance Claims Consultant plays a pivotal role in managing claims for CMB Insurance Brokers. Reporting to the Claims Specialist and collaborating with the VP of Operations, this position is tasked with overseeing all claims processes, conducting thorough investigations of losses, and determining liability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist clients throughout the evaluation and total loss journey.
- Support clients in navigating the dispute resolution process.
- Provide guidance to clients who wish to manage their own claims.
- Help clients understand and finalize releases for losses not covered by insurance.
- Analyze claims service reports, trends, and key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Contribute to specialized claims defense initiatives for clients.
- Participate in the development and facilitation of claims training programs.
- Report claims to insurance providers upon receipt from clients or their representatives.
- Maintain effective communication with clients regarding ongoing claims and processes.
- Create and manage claims files, tracking progress using CMB Insurance Brokers' systems.
- Ensure claims files are accurately maintained within the CMB Insurance Brokers' systems.
- Follow up on outstanding claims to expedite resolution, collaborating with sales and service teams as needed.
- Mediate claims on behalf of clients when required.
- Coordinate emergency response efforts and establish claims files following incidents.
- Build and sustain relationships with insurer claims departments to facilitate open claims.
- Establish and maintain connections with independent adjusting firms and vendors.
Claims Administration:
- Review policy documents, coverage, and relevant legislation as it pertains to claims for CMB clients.
- Document recommendations for claim resolutions, including evaluations, negotiations, and settlements.
- Provide oversight for claims administration concerning incidents in both the US and Canada.
- Collaborate with the Risk Management department to monitor claims reserves for large accounts, ensuring adequate funding levels.
- Compile quarterly reports from insurers to prepare and distribute aging reports, reserve adjustments, and loss ratios.
- Establish performance metrics to demonstrate departmental efficiencies, including claims volume versus total claims cost.
- Prepare monthly reports and undertake additional duties as assigned.
Team Support:
- Mentor junior staff, sharing technical expertise.
- Take proactive measures to prevent Errors & Omissions, reporting any potential issues to the Claims Specialist.
- Notify the Claims Specialist of any potential bad debts.
- Familiarize oneself with and adhere to company policies and procedures.
- Engage in staff meetings and company events.
Reporting Requirements:
- Prepare monthly reports detailing total claims by agent, department, and claim age.
- Analyze average closure times by claim type.
- Document open claims by customer, loss type, and insurance provider.
- Track new claims by customer, loss type, and insurance provider.
- Record closed claims by customer, loss type, and insurance provider.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 years of claims experience, including supervisory responsibilities.
- Experience with various claims types, including Downtime, Cargo, CGL, Cyber, and large property claims.
- Familiarity with WCB legislation, Injury and Accident Benefits is advantageous.
- Understanding of litigation options under Tort Law.
- Experience in Quantum and Liability negotiations and investigations.
- Proficiency with The Agency Manager, Policy Works, Microsoft Office Suite, or similar systems.
- Knowledge of the renewal process and accounts receivable processes is beneficial.
- Experience in career planning and team development is desirable.
- Strong creative problem-solving abilities.
Education Requirements:
- Licensed Level 2 Insurance Agent is preferred.
- Completion of FCIP, CIP, CRM, or CAIB designation or equivalent is desirable.
